Dear Campers and Summer Computer Camp Staff @ iD Tech,
Below are our winners for the week! These pictures will be selected by Jimmy in our web and creative department here at iD. He went through the photos on http://www.internaldrive.com/photos to look for the photo-of-the-week winners for this week.
As always, he had a lot of fun browsing the pictures. With almost 50 of our summer computer camps now in session, the pool of pictures is greater, and the competition is stiffer. What is going on at our summer camps around the country this week? Jimmy was looking for iD Spirit, fun, energy, whackiness, university landmarks…pictures that paint the picture for what our summer camps are like. Of course, the better quality photos are preferred, but we also realize there are different levels of camera quality out at tech camp.
Each of the below pictures is a winner for this week. Congratulations to you! And, if your camp was not selected for this week, the good news is that there is always today, tomorrow, and next week to stand out!
Please keep in mind that next week’s theme is “4th of July.” Good luck!
Let’s get started!
Remember, many more pictures can be found at http://www.internaldrive.com/photos. We look forward to many more photos next week!

Dear Students and Summer Computer Camp Staff @ iD Tech,
Early this morning, Jimmy in our web department here in Silicon Valley went through the photos on http://www.internaldrive.com/photos to look for the photo-of-the-week winners for this week. He says he had a lot of fun browsing through the pictures–as I am sure many of our campers, staff and parents will as well. What is going on at computer camp around the country this week? Jimmy was looking for iD Spirit, fun, energy, whackiness, university landmarks…pictures that paint the picture for what our summer camps are like. Of course, the better quality photos are preferred, but we also realize there are different levels of camera quality out at tech camp. So, for this week, guess what…EACH OF THE BELOW PHOTOS IS A WINNER! And, if your camp was not selected for this week, the good news is that there is always today, tomorrow, and next week to stand out!

Hi, I’m Ruth! I will be writing a guest blog column called “Snacks!”
I have always been a big supporter of snack time so when I started at iD Tech Camps, I was determined to provide some seriously tasty goodies to my iD Family. Snacks = happy iDers = happy campers. As a result, this iD Snacks blog was created! (Disclaimer: The creation of an iD Daily Exercise blog might be needed after a few of these entries.)
Hello iD campers, families, and the general blogosphere! Have you missed me? Sorry about the two-week hiatus. It’s been pretty busy here at iD, and everyone is excited about making this coming summer camp season the best yet!! So to keep tabs on us, just keep checking back to our summer camp site and this blog. (Props to the iD Web team for making our awesome new website! If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend you check it out.)
Anyway, back to the important stuff – this week’s snack! It’s officially autumn which means that pumpkins are popping up all over the place. They’re seriously starting to show up everywhere, especially with Halloween coming up. Kids, do you have your costume yet? If you don’t, just wear all your iD gear and dress up as a summer camper!
What was I blogging about again? Oh yes, pumpkins! This week’s snack is pumpkin cake with chopped walnuts topped with cream cheese frosting. Why cake? Well, why not? Kids love cake and everyone here at iD Tech Camps is a kid at heart. Moms and Dads, if you have a little gamer at home who can’t seem to get off the computer, I’m positive that the enticing smell of this pumpkin cake baking will be enough to draw his attention away for a nice break. This cake is super moist and not too sweet. Also, pumpkin is very healthy and good for you so there’s not too much guilt about making/devouring this cake.

Here’s the incredibly easy recipe:
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Sift together 2 cups of flour, 3 tsp baking powder, 2 tsp baking soda, 1/4 tsp salt, 1 tsp ground nutmeg, and 2 tsp ground cinnamon. In a large bowl, combine 2 cups of sugar with 1 cup of veggie oil then stir in 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract. To that mixture, blend in 2 cups of canned or fresh pumpkin and add 4 eggs, one at a time. Take your flour mixture and slowly integrate it into the pumpkin/oil/sugar/egg mix. Stir in 1 cup of chopped walnuts. You can bake this in a sheet pan (for 25 mins), or as cupcakes (for 12 minutes).
The cream cheese frosting was made by whipping together 2 8oz packages of light cream cheese, 1 stick of butter, about 2 cups of powdered sugar, and 1 tbsp ground cinnamon. You can also add some pumpkin so the frosting mix to give it a little more pumpkiny goodness.
And of course, gratuitous pictures of iDers enjoying my snacks!

On another note, my birthday is tomorrow so please celebrate with me by making this delicious cake and snacking on the iD way.

“The staff did a phenomenal job! Everything was flawless and handled professionally. The counselors were enthusiastic, eager to help, and eager to have fun. This is a great summer camp because it has a perfect balance between computer time and typical summer camp activities. It was a very positive experience for me, and I highly recommend the camp to anyone considering a summer computer camp.”
Peter, Student, University of Minnesota
“I have always worked with robotics and thought iD Tech Camps would be a great place for me to sharpen my skills. I was wrong because not only were my skills strengthened, but I also learned a great deal and had a blast doing it!”

Keeps the campers at bay!

Who doesn’t love biting into a perfectly crisp apple?
My absolute favorite apple hands-down is called the Honeycrisp. Never heard of it? Well, my dear summer campers, this apple is only found September-October! These apples store well (up to 6 months in the right conditions!), are super crispy for a long time, are subtly fruity sweet, yet lightly tart to keep your mouth watering for more. It really does justice to its own name. Engineered at the University of Minnesota (where you can attend summer camp with us!) the Honeycrisp is a cross between a Macoun apple and a Honeygold apple.

I discovered these crispy critters when I was an undergrad in Minnesota, and I am pleased to find that these apples have recently become commercially available across the country. I remember my first Honeycrisp experience incredibly well. A local farmer had stopped by the office where I worked and dropped off a crate of these smackers as a thank you for helping him out. After the first bite I was hooked. I wanted to share these apples with my whole family! So I immediately ordered a box from a local farm and had it shipped to my mom in California. It was pretty expensive but well worth it. She called me the exact moment the UPS man knocked on her door with the delivery. I remember hearing both of them marveling out loud at the wonderful, fresh, sweet apple fragrance wafting from the box. What other apple has that effect?? I dare you to find a better apple.
But in the meantime… Whole Foods stocks them for a couple months and many online stores are starting to make them available. So get them while they last, I promise you won’t regret it.

Get your apple a day, iD!

I know I’m very fortunate to live in California because most fruits are in season year-round. I say “most” because one of my favorite fruits is only around during the summer season. Since summer officially ended last week, these fruits are going to disappear from your local market soon. So on that note, this week on iD Snacks I bring to you FIGS!

Everyone knows what a fig newton is, but not many people (campers and non-campers alike) have eaten fresh figs. My favorite are categorized as kadota figs. They’re small, have a firmer texture than most figs, and are iD Green! These figs are also usually found only at farmer’s markets so eat local, iD!
Unfortunately, these figs are rarely found outside of California since they perish quickly and bruise easily. So the next time you’re in California during the summer, try to snack on these tasty little bulbs.
To further celebrate summer fruits, I brought some fresh strawberries and some apple slices. Fruits are not only tasty, but they’re healthy and full of vitamins! So please eat your fruits, campers and iD Families.

That’s Bonsai enjoying the variety of summer fruits brought to her by yours truly.
Countdown to summer camp and eating summer fruits officially begins now!
