FPS Game Design – Unreal® Engine 3
If you are looking to design professional 3D games that both look and feel like the ones you play at home, then you don’t want to miss this 3D video game design camp for teens. Aspiring game designers will use the world class Unreal® Engine 3 to design 3D levels with custom geometry, employing a variety of textures, meshes and dynamic lighting. In addition, students will use MilkShape 3D to create and import basic 3D models, as well as learn visual scripting with Kismet to change gameplay conditions and event triggers.
Working on individual projects, students will emulate the workflow of a professional studio and get an insider’s look at how the game design industry works. Students will also take home a Steam® account with complimentary full access to Unreal Tournament® 3 Black! Welcome to internalDrive! Do Something Big this summer!

Gaming Activities: Gaming Tournaments, Ultimate Gaming Weekends
General gameplay is a fun aspect of our summer camps, but does not infringe on instructional time. This season will feature Gaming Tournaments and Ultimate Gaming Weekends showcasing the industry’s best. We use NVIDIA® GeForce® gaming cards for peak gaming performance. Students will play BIG titles from Epic Games®, Activision®, THQ® Microsoft® GameStudios™ and more. In order to offer the most cutting edge experience for our campers, we have adopted the policy of allowing the use of some select games with ESRB ratings of “E” for Everyone, “T” for Teen and “M” for Mature to be used as part of our curriculum in a supervised environment. We take our corporate responsibility and iD family values very seriously, but cannot guarantee that younger students will avoid complete contact with these games. Please know that we make every effort to minimize exposure to any games not appropriate for these age groups.
Note 1: Gaming does NOT infringe on instructional time.
Note 2: Games with ESRB Ratings of E, T and M are used at our camps.

What’s New?
New curriculum! We have updated our curriculum based on the best of Unreal Tournament® 3 modding and game design. We’ve substantially beefed up our coverage of MilkShape 3D tools for creating basic 3D models, as well as focused more intently on Kismet, the visual scripting tool that will allow students to create custom objectives, custom scoring, and replace characters’ meshes! If you enjoy playing Unreal Tournament 3, you’ll be amazed at what you can do to “make it your own”!
How We Teach
Industry Leading Curriculum & Instruction
Average 6 Students per Staff for Personalized Learning
We maintain an average of just 6 students per instructor. The small ratios ensure personalized instruction and the highest caliber technology summer camp experience. Students at iD are taught only by hand-selected adult staff.
Adult-Only Staff – No Counselors-in-Training
Our entire staff is comprised of adults age 18 and over. iD Tech Camps has respectfully created a no Counselors-in-Training (CIT) policy at our summer technology camps. Students learn best from adults who have mastered their skills in technology. Instruction is delivered by graduate and undergraduate students majoring in the fields of Film, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Education, Media Arts, and other related fields.
Beginner to Advanced
Our ever-evolving curriculum is designed for beginning through advanced learners, allowing students to move along at their own pace with customized lessons for a fun and appropriate challenge. We use award-winning brand-name software.
Weeklong Courses
Students focus on one course topic per week. Our weeklong kids camps and teen camp courses provide students with a firm understanding of their course topic. Many students enroll in multiple weeks of summer camp by exploring many different course topics.
Our Recommendations
There are no prerequisites for this course. Are you looking to take your game design skills to the next level? Think you can build better maps than your favorite game designers? Would you like to build 3D video graphics and games with tools as powerful as those used on real commercial game titles? If so, this teen 3D game design course is perfect for you. This exciting course will both challenge you and give you the freedom to bring your imagination to life.
Please Note: The software used in this course may contain violence. Projects can be made without the use of violence, but you may want to consider one of these courses: Game Creation – Arcade & Platform or possibly 3D Game Design – Role Playing Games for software that is inherently less violent in nature.
