Teen Film Camps • Teen Photography Camp
Schedules may vary by day and/or session. Please note that the below course outlines are for two-week sessions at the iD Visual Arts Academy. For more details on our other programs, please choose from iD Tech Camps, iD Gaming Academy or iD Programming Academy.
Learn from professional filmmakers and photographers! The iD Visual Arts Academy offers students of all experience levels the chance to tell their own story through a digital media academy. Academy students use professional-grade tools including Apple® Final Cut Studio® (with Final Cut Pro®), Adobe® After Effects®, Adobe® Lightroom® and Photoshop®. Students graduate with a portfolio. iD faculty deliver one-on-one instruction, encouraging and challenging students to work toward completing a high-quality project and portfolio.
Learning in small groups (max 8:1 students per instructor) students work at their own pace. New to the visual arts? You’ll be brought up to speed. Students with previous experience will be challenged significantly.
All students participating in our teen movie camps and teen photography camps will have a memorable experience making friends, developing new skills and learning first-hand from professionals and college majors who are passionate about visual arts.
iD Film Studios 101
Week One: Jump in with an introduction to film genres and a short history of film and video editing. Tell a powerful story by writing an effective treatment, researching shooting locations, and selecting and interviewing subjects for dramatic content. Learn the visual language of film and be introduced to film aesthetics and the fundamentals of the documentary genre. Our instructors will guide you through the principles of camera operation, sound recording and on-location production techniques. Produce short group projects and learn the importance of pre-production, as well as the fundamentals of shooting a high quality, engaging film.
Week Two: Dive into post-production by learning the principles of digital editing and continuity. Using Final Cut Pro® and Adobe® After Effects®, cut scenes together and add effects to heighten the impact of your story. Learn the importance of sound design by mixing voiceovers, music, interviews and ambient sounds together. Upon completion of your project, output your work through DVD authoring or uploading to the web and put together an impressive packet for film festival submission. Find out more.
Visual FX with Final Cut Pro® & Adobe® After Effects®
Week One: Learn how to draw the viewer into the on-screen action through strategic use of camera techniques and the role of effective pre-production effects planning. By analyzing industry mainstay techniques like masking and compositing, you’ll learn practical methods and production tricks that make footage jump off the screen. Working with both stock and custom footage, students will learn advanced features of Final Cut Pro® X such as keyframing and transforms, and begin effects integration with Adobe® After Effects®.
Week Two: Harnessing the power of Adobe® After Effects®, students will investigate compelling editing principles and software rendering tools as they apply to fast action, visual storytelling, and motion graphics. Discover a variety of available effects and learn when (and when NOT) to apply them. Learn how to edit visual FX footage with hard driving soundtracks or sound effects for maximum impact, matching audio and video pacing. Each student will cut, create, and build a personal portfolio of FX shorts, while learning the best compression formats for uploading to social websites like Youtube and Facebook. Find out more.
Professional Photography
Week One: Capture powerful moments in time through the use of exposure, dynamic range, image analysis, shutter speeds, aperture, location scouting and creative lighting. Learn the fundamental art of digital photography, with an introduction to visual aesthetics and the exploration of several genres of photography. You will be guided through the principles of hands-on camera operation, focusing on the key elements of a DSLR camera. Produce a portfolio of images to showcase your initial experimentation and creativity and build a solid foundation for taking high quality, meaningful photographs.
Week Two: Discover the differences and advantages of Raw vs. JPEG. Learn color balance, ISO and exposure compensation, advanced camera and shooting techniques, as well as complex natural lighting techniques. You will enter the artistic world of photography post-production, utilizing the industry standard Adobe® Photoshop® and Photoshop® Lightroom®. Learn proper work flow, color correction and “finishing” techniques to organize, polish and create stunning photographs. “Finish” your photographs through advanced post-production techniques, prepare your photos for web presentation or print and build a masterful portfolio.
