Computer Camps Held at Brown University

iD Tech Camps, Ages 7-17

WEEKLONG | CO-ED | DAY CAMPS | OVERNIGHT CAMPS
COURSE TOPICS: VIDEO GAME DESIGN, PROGRAMMING, APPS, WEB DESIGN & MORE

Ignite your internalDrive and do something BIG this summer! iD Tech Camps is a family company – and our company is a unique place. Some call it magical. We’re the World’s #1 Tech Camp – consistently ranked a Top Workplace. One of our big secrets? Ridiculously small ratios. Small ratios mean personalized instruction – just 8 students per instructor or fewer – or you get a free week of camp, guaranteed! Our adult-only staff are tech-savvy undergraduates, graduate students and professionals, passionate about teaching game design, film, computer science and more.

This is our 6th season hosting summer camps at Brown University. We strike the right balance between off-computer activities (creative games, sports, life skills, etc.) and essential technology education to foster STEM skill development (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). Our popular summer day camps and overnight camps at Brown University are located in beautiful Providence, Rhode Island.

We offer a variety of cutting-edge summer camp courses for beginner through advanced learners. Kids and teens learn one course topic per week, specializing in video game design, iPhone® app development, Flash® animation, programming, video editing and more – using the best brand name products from Adobe®, Apple®, Autodesk®, Google, Microsoft® and beyond. Come explore the college campus and gain skills that will last long after summer camp ends. Continue to Step 2 for Course AvailabilityTuition & Dates.

About Brown University

NOTE: Looking for our exact location on campus? You must first be enrolled; you can then access that information through My Account. Not yet enrolled? Go to Step 2 to enroll. The maps included here are for general information only.

Many students use their summer camp experience with iD Tech Camps to explore colleges that they’re interested in attending in the future. Learn on campus, eat in the dining halls and ages 10+ can even stay overnight (at most campuses).

We have chosen Brown University to host our summer computer camps because Brown’s CS Department is one of the nation’s leading Computer Science programs – as ranked by the National Research Council. Brown was also ranked number one in the Princeton Review’s Best College Rankings as having the happiest students.

Brown University

Founded in 1764, Brown University was the third college in New England and the seventh in America. Our Brown University summer camp sits on 143 acres atop College Hill, overlooking Providence, the capital of Rhode Island. T.F. Green Airport is 10 miles south, in Warwick, RI.

The lunch plan is recommended, but not mandatory. If the lunch plan is purchased, lunch is provided Monday-Friday. Many university dining facilities do not permit outside food to be brought into the dining hall; students bringing bag lunches may eat outside of the dining hall with their classmates and instructors.

Staff Ratio Guarantee

iD Guarantee

Students learn in small classes for a personalized experience. How small? Classes typically have 5, 6, 7, or 8 students – but never more than 8 per instructor. That's the iD Guarantee - if we ever go over an 8:1 ratio, you get a free week of camp!

Adult-Only Instructors

iD Tech Camps recruits energetic, experienced instructors to teach our technology courses and supervise our students. Our summer staff is adult-only, with no Counselors-in-Training.

Personalized Instruction

Courses are personalized to students' abilities, and therefore suitable for beginner to advanced levels in most cases. Because of the ridiculously small ratios (max 8:1 or a free week with the iD Guarantee), instructors have time to consistently work with students 1-on-1 and adjust curriculum to their interests and experience level.

Project-Based Curriculum

We encourage a hands-on approach to technology; students learn by doing. Each student is provided with a computer and learns to work with the same products that professionals use in their fields. Students complete a project showing off their new technology skills by the end of each weeklong session they attend. By focusing on practical applications of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) skills, iD prepares students to take their new tech knowledge back into the real world.

Staff at this Location

Meet some of the amazing instructors that have taught at Brown University over the years.

  • “R2D2”: This is R2D2’s 10th year of teaching – and she loves it!  She is currently attending Rhode Island College to receive a master’s degree in Educational Leadership. At camp, you may see her leading a group activity, teaching Web Design/Flash, or running around making sure everyone has what they need.
  • “Cyborg”: Cyborg is a recent graduate of Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) and brings years of experience with video games and programming to camp.  He loves sharing his knowledge with students, and can’t wait to inspire the next generation of STEM learners.
  • “Sparkle Hearts”: Sparkle Hearts is a concept artist by trade, with experience working in advertising and on professional video games.  She loves teaching and hopes that her industry experience will provide useful insights for all of her campers.
  • “Mr. X”: Mr. X has been working with video ever since he was a kid and knows Final Cut Pro like the back of his hand.  He is also a Photoshop pro and loves teaching students how to manipulate both digital videos and photos.

Testimonials From Brown University

What Parents Are Saying

This is the 3rd year my son attended this camp. He absolutely loves being here and begs us to come back for a second week every summer. He loves the food, and the campus as well. Thank you for taking good care of my son, he looks forward to coming back again. Lori Z., parent, Brown University

I was very impressed with the organization and the ease of registration, etc. As someone who used to run a summer camp, I know how difficult it can be! Thanks for the exceptional experience. Teresa K., parent, Brown University

I love this camp – it is very well organized and you do a good job of hiring really nice administrators and teachers. This is our second experience here and really think it is an excellent camp. Elizabeth S., parent, Brown University

Perfect fit for my 11 year old. It was engaging, fun and inspiring to my child. Teresa S., parent, Brown University

My son had a wonderful time at camp. He’s a bit of a hard kid to impress, but from the second he arrived at Brown, you had him. Just the right balance of things to keep him engaged. He loved everything about camp, even the outdoor activities. Liked the other kids … he doesn’t normally have access to so many kids who are like minded about computers. He’s been talking enthusiastically about the programming projects he worked on, eager to continue. And talking about wanting to go back next summer. So this was the most successful birthday/Christmas present I’ve ever given anyone. Thanks so much. Karen S., parent, Brown University

What Campers Are Saying

iD Tech Camps was, and always is amazing! This is my second year returning and I’m already begging my parents to send me next year. The teachers, facilities and other campers were all great. Overall, I had a great time. Jill P., student, Brown University

Yet another wonderful week. Made some friends, had fun and learned a lot about the Unreal Engine and UDK – but there is still much to learn. I have many ideas for map designs, and I plan to carry them out. I can’t wait until my next week of camp. Austin M., student, Brown University

Everything about this camp was amazing. This is my third year and I have enjoyed every single moment. There is nothing better than developing a custom, original level in your favorite game or making a movie with your friends. Going to iD Tech Camps is basically a guarantee to have fun. Joseph Z., student, Brown University

This camp was fantastic and I learned a great amount about using mod tools in Valve’s Source Engine. Noah T., student, Brown University

The staff were so easy to connect with and clearly love what they do. Camp was tons of fun and I wish I could go to iD Tech Camps for the rest of the summer. Rachel W., student, Brown University
