iD Tech Camps, Ages 7-17

WEEKLONG | CO-ED | DAY CAMPS | OVERNIGHT CAMPS
COURSE TOPICS: VIDEO GAME DESIGN, PROGRAMMING, APPS, WEB DESIGN & MORE

Ignite your internalDrive and do something BIG this summer! iD Tech Camps is a family company – and our company is a unique place. Some call it magical. We’re the World’s #1 Tech Camp – consistently ranked a Top Workplace. One of our big secrets? Ridiculously small ratios. Small ratios mean personalized instruction – just 8 students per instructor or fewer, guaranteed! Our adult-only staff are tech-savvy undergraduates, graduate students and professionals, passionate about teaching game design, film, computer science and more.

This is our 12th season hosting summer camps at our Southern Methodist University location. We strike the right balance between off-computer activities (creative games, sports, life skills, etc.) and essential technology education to foster STEM skill development (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). Our popular Southern Methodist University summer day camps and overnight camps are located in Dallas, TX.

We offer a variety of cutting-edge summer camp courses for beginner through advanced learners. Kids and teens learn one course topic per week, specializing in video game design, iPhone® app development, programming, video editing and more – using the best brand name products from Adobe®, Apple®, Autodesk®, Google, Microsoft® and beyond. Come explore the college campus and gain skills that will last long after summer camp ends. Continue to Step 2 for Course AvailabilityTuition & Dates.

About Southern Methodist University

NOTE: Looking for our exact location on campus? You must first be enrolled; you can then access that information through My Account. Not yet enrolled? Go to Step 2 to enroll. The maps included here are for general information only.

Many students use their summer camp experience with iD Tech Camps to explore colleges that they’re interested in attending in the future. Learn on campus, eat in the dining halls and ages 10+ can even stay overnight (at most campuses).

iD Tech Camps has chosen Southern Methodist University to host our elite summer camps in Texas because of its enduring reputation as a top university. The city of Dallas has supported SMU since its beginning, when local citizens pledged $300,000 to secure the University. SMU also boasts quite the cultural scene with its Meadows Museum, which houses one of the finest collections of Spanish art outside of Spain, including works by such masters as Goya, Picasso, and Miró.

The university is located approximately 3 miles from the Dallas Love Field Airport, and 19 miles from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. Driving by car is the top mode of transportation for Dallasites, but the city does offer many transportation options, including a vast network of light-rail and bus service provided by Dallas Area Rapid Transit, making it the perfect Texas summer camp location.

Southern Methodist University

Our academic camps at SMU entail a small, caring academic community in the heart of a vibrant international Sun Belt City. Consistently ranked in the top third of national universities in the guide America’s Best Colleges, SMU enrolls more than 10,000 students from all 50 states and 100 foreign countries. Located just five miles north of downtown Dallas, the wooded SMU campus stretches over 165 acres.

8:1 Staff Ratio Guarantee

iD Guarantee - Small Class Sizes

We guarantee ridiculously small class sizes, with a maximum of 8 students per instructor. Why? Because our teaching philosophy is premised on personalization - your path, at your pace. iD's passionate, adult-only instructors guide students through customized curriculum with 1-on-1 teaching. The immersive environment (typically 5, 6, 7 or 8 students - but never more than 8 per instructor) is ideal for fostering creativity. Read more about the 8:1 iD Guarantee.

Adult-Only Instructors

iD Tech Camps recruits energetic, adult-only instructors to teach our technology courses and supervise our students. Our summer staff is passionate about technology. We do not cut corners by employing Counselors-in-Training. We recruit from top colleges and universities to find staff with great credentials in game development, filmmaking, web design, programming, photography, etc.

Personalized Instruction

Most courses are beginner through advanced. Our innovative curriculum is premised on a blended learning strategy. Students receive blended (or hybrid) instruction through use of the brand new iD Game Plan engine along with live 1-on-1 instruction from our team of educators. Our approach allows students to move along at an appropriate, customized pace.

Project-Based Curriculum

We encourage a hands-on, experiential approach to technology; students learn by doing. Each student is provided with a computer and works with the same products that professionals use in their fields. Students complete a project showing off their new technology skills. By focusing on practical skill development of STEM topics (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) iD prepares students to take their new tech knowledge back into the real world.

Testimonials From Southern Methodist University

What Parents Are Saying

My son grew in ways that I never thought possible, thank you for allowing him a safe place to learn, grow and mature! Misty B., parent, Southern Methodist University

I am very impressed with the level of enthusiasm and quality of instruction that your staff is able to pass along to my son. All of my kids look forward to participating in the future. Lisa Z., parent, Southern Methodist University

From the minute he walked into his first camp last year, we knew Max had found his place. He took two courses last summer, he’s taking four this summer, and he looks forward to every minute. We’re impressed with the scope of offerings, something to please every gamer, and look forward to returning over the years at different campuses throughout the country as Max moves closer towards college (he’s 11 now). Other camps bore him silly; in this one, he gets to do what he loves. What a great idea! Thank you for giving my son a creative outlet like this! Ronda S., parent, Southern Methodist University

My son’s instructor is clearly passionate about what he is doing and my son talked about him/class all the way home, every day! Great preparation for him. Brian W., parent, Southern Methodist University

I was very impressed with how quickly my student was able to learn a complicated set of programs in one week. The small student/teacher ratio makes the difference… Pam S., parent, Southern Methodist University

What Campers Are Saying

I can’t put into words how amazed and appreciative I am of how far my instructor went for this class. He is by far the kindest, most patient, fun and supportive instructor I’ve ever had. I strongly appreciate her responsibility, leadership, and kindness. The project was very fun and I think the instruction was awesome overall. The equipment was incredible, and overall, I had a great experience with iD Tech Camps and I hope to return next year. Joshua Z., student, Southern Methodist University

iD Tech Camps has probably changed my life. I always wanted to have a career that involves computers, but I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do. I loved designing maps for Unreal and I want to do it as an adult. Braxton C., student, Southern Methodist University

I liked iD Tech Camps a lot because the staff is really helpful, the dorms are awesome and the experience is just amazing. I’m definitely coming back next year. Spencer W., student, Southern Methodist University

The instructors are extremely caring people who are very knowledgeable in many fields besides their own. Knowing this made me feel confident about what I have learned, and I am now more prepared for the future. Joshua S., student, Southern Methodist University

iD Tech Camps has been a great help in my overall programming experience. After teaching myself web design languages such as html, JavaScript, css, php, and xml, I started learning C#. Then I came to iD Tech Camps to learn C++, and was given a great environment to learn all the core elements. Ethan H., student, Southern Methodist University
