About University of Virginia

UVA is located 110 miles from Washington, DC, and 68 miles from Richmond in the small thriving city of Charlottesville. Charlottesville, located in the foothills of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains, is home to 40,000 people in the city and 145,000 in the larger metropolitan area.

Getting to Campus: We do not disclose the precise campus location of this Virginia summer camp until you register. Specific maps and driving direction will be found in your Camp Account. Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport is located 8 miles north of the City of Charlottesville, 1 mile west of Route 29 on Airport Road. University of Virginia is an excellent option for a Day Camp and Overnight Camp.

Rankings: The U.S. News & World Report ranked the University of Virginia as the #2 public university (tied with UCLA) among universities in the USA. The undergraduate program at UVA ranked #2 (again tied with UCLA) out of a pool of 200 universities. In the 20-year history of the rankings, UVA has never dropped out of the Top 25 listing, and in the ten years since U.S. News began ranking public universities as a separate category, the school has ranked either #1 or #2. In its home state of Virginia, UVA has maintained the prestigious #1 spot every year since its inception.

Athletics: The University of Virginia’s athletics program competes in Division I (and the Football Bowl Subdivision for football) and since 1953 as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference. The nicknamed Virginia Cavaliers, also called “Wahoos” or “Hoos”, have won 19 national championships, 14 of them since 1980. Virginia has won multiple national titles in five different sports, including three men’s sports (lacrosse, 6; soccer, 5; and boxing, 2) and two women’s sports (lacrosse, 3; and cross country, 2). It also holds a national championship in track and field. The men’s college basketball team has won either the ACC regular season or ACC Tournament titles six times and has been to the Final Four twice, while the women’s squad has been three times.

Camp Activities for Kids & Teens


Age appropriate fun for kids 7-12 and teens 13-17. Students will receive an average of 5-6 hours of technical instruction per day mixed with breaks, lunch, and fun camp activities we like to call TechReation. Participation in activities is encouraged, but optional. Physical activities may include ultimate frisbee, capture-the-flag, fun teambuilding games, soccer, etc., and other camp activities like Guitar Hero®, video gaming tournaments, social time and more. Each week wraps up with family showcase at 2:00 PM on Friday. Check out the cool projects created by students, meet the instructor, and attend our diploma ceremony.

Attention Virginia Teens! Our summer camps in Virginia at University of Virginia just got even cooler for our teen students. We have specialized teen activities including free time to hang out, movie nights, extra project time, and as always, plenty of gaming. Weekend Stays

Stay the Weekend at iD this Summer!

Weekend Stays and Ultimate Gaming Weekends are offered at many iD locations.

Weekend Stays / Ultimate Gaming Weekends are great options for students looking to bridge the gap between two weeks of camp or for students who want to stay and game with us the weekend following their camp week.

Overnight students ages 12-17 at iD Tech Camps, as well as those registered for our Teen Academies (ages 13-18), can bridge the weekend between consecutive overnight camp weeks. As an exception, overnight students ages 10-17 at Stanford University may also participate. The cost is $349 per weekend and is all-inclusive (housing, meals, supervision, gaming, activities, etc). This offering only applies to overnight students and is not stand-alone.

Not a serious gamer? We’ve got you covered. You can take it easy in the labs, play retro games, read a book, play outdoor sports, or just keep a low profile.
