Shy Guy to Action Film Producer in a Week
Fourteen Year Old Finds His Calling at Summer Tech Program at Lake Forest College

Sam Shraiberg knows what he wants. Many teenagers enjoy acting, but it isn't every day that a fourteen year old boy says he wants to be the next big movie producer, the next George Lucas.

On the surface, Sam seems shy and reserved. He does extremely well in school and takes his academics, especially projects involving computers, very seriously. Sam's parents recognized his ambition to learn technology at an early age, sending him to various computer camps, yet they had no luck at finding “the right fit.” After searching for a camp that would provide the right atmosphere for his learning style, Sam's mother Carol came across iD Tech Camps, a summer program for ages 7-17 that offers weeklong courses in technology, including Digital Video Editing.

"Not only did Sam come out of his shell, at iD Tech Camps he found a place where his computer skills could really blossom." said Carol Shraiberg. "We were impressed that in just one week, Sam produced a short film based on the James Bond movies."

Along with a few other campers, Sam wrote the script for the film, selected the shooting locations around the Lake Forest College campus where the camp was being held, and shot the movie using a Canon® digital video camera. Once filming was complete, his team edited the short together adding transitions, titles and special effects using Apple® Final Cut Pro® and Adobe® After Effects®.

"I was thrilled about the movie-making skills he learned," said Carol. "In the Digital Video Editing course, Sam studied and experienced all aspects of production from pre-production to production to post production." Carol couldn't be happier about her decision to send Sam to iD Tech Camps. She describes the staff as having charm and energy, while creating a fun camp atmosphere that was not only perfect for Sam's reserved nature, but also conducive to reaching his educational goals.

"Sam went from a seeming shy student at the beginning of the week to becoming extremely outgoing and enthusiastic as he produced his film," said Camp Director Charley Aldridge, a Graphic Designer. Sam's passion for filmmaking carries into animation as well. "Sam has an amazing imagination. Other students would stop working on their projects to look at Sam's brilliant Flash animations," said Charley.

Sam's family continues to watch his first film repeatedly as they anxiously await what the future holds for this rising filmmaker.
