iD Programming Academy - Advanced Programming for iPhone and iPad Apps

About This Course/ Featured Software

Prerequisite: Practical knowledge of C++ or Java.

Beginning with a foundation in Object Oriented Programming (OOP) like Java or C++, students in this course will be introduced to Objective-C, and then tackle Apple® development environments Xcode® and Interface Builder. Students will additionally explore the iPhone® SDK, bringing them full circle and emulating their applications on the computer. Teens in this two-week programming course will create fun, usable iPhone and iPad® apps and learn the fundamentals behind app development, so they can keep building programs long after their session ends. Each student creates a portfolio of programs and apps.

Please Note: Camp projects are linked with Apple® Developer accounts registered to iD Tech Camps and have a fixed expiration date. Projects must be re-linked with a student’s own Apple® Developer account to be permanent. If you’d like us to try to copy your game to your iOS device, it must be officially supported and updated to the latest software version. iD is NOT responsible for lost, damaged or stolen equipment.

Curriculum At A High Level

Week One: Get introduced to all things iPhone® and iPad®. Gain a familiarity with Objective-C, the programming language used by Apple®, as well as Cocoa® Touch, the code framework used specifically for the iPhone®. Learn Apple® integrated development tools Xcode® and Project Builder to begin the exciting process of creating your course project. Explore the various capabilities of the iPhone®, including the Map, Address Book, Mail, Game, store API’s (Application Programming Interfaces) and much more. By examining current popular applications and open source projects by major corporations, you will receive hands-on experience with your iPhone® or iPad® and learn what it takes to be a real mobile application developer.

Week Two: Delve further into topics that interest you based on your initial exposure to iPhone® possibilities. Our instructors will demystify some of the more complex features of the iPhone® by teaching useful programming skills and by breaking down source code of advanced applications. Learn how the official development process works, how to interact with web services and also explore more advanced game apps. Make something truly impressive and understand and implement the advantages that mobile devices provide to software developers.

Industry Leading Curriculum & Instruction

8:1 Ratio, Guaranteed

We guarantee ridiculously small class sizes, with a maximum of 8 students per instructor. Why? Because our teaching philosophy is premised on personalization – your path, at your pace. iD's passionate, adult-only instructors guide students through customized curriculum with 1-on-1 teaching. The immersive environment (typically 5, 6, 7 or 8 students – but never more than 8 per instructor) is ideal for fostering creativity.

Two-Week Intensive Course

Our two-week courses at the Academy provide students with the right amount of time to get comfortable in their field of study and put their knowledge to use with hands-on projects. Students also have ample time to work on their online portfolios, enjoy excursions and tours of nearby facilities, relax with late-night gaming tournaments and explore campus.

Adult-Only Faculty, No Counselors-in-Training

Staff at the Academy have a deep understanding of the software, hardware and technical skills needed to succeed in their competitive industries.  They pass along their knowledge to Academy students, and are able to cover a tremendous amount of material in a two-week period. The reason?  Small ratios, innovative curriculum, an intensive staff training program, and an expectation of excellence.  The end result is an awesome online portfolio—and newfound confidence that comes with accomplishing something BIG.
