Course Instruction - Meet the Staff
This season we are excited to be offering two tracks as part of our iD Spain Program.
Track Uno: Filmmaking, Spanish & Culture (Includes all program details).
Track Dos: Spanish & Culture (Includes all program details except filmmaking).

iD Tech Camps Staff
There will be dedicated, experienced iD Tech Camps instructors and chaperones who will be the digital video instructors for Track Uno as well as chaperones for the students in both Tracks. We will be accompanying students during the full 2 ½ weeks in Spain, serving as their program counselors.

Spanish Instruction
Students in both tracks will receive Spanish Language instruction. All of the Spanish instruction is conducted by native, credentialed Spaniards. The Spanish classes involve a total immersion experience for teens of intensive Spanish language and culture. Access to student services, such as on-site support, academic counseling, a computer lab, social activities, cultural visits and weekend excursions, are all included.
Spanish class will last 3 hours per day (M-F) for two consecutive weeks. There will be a maximum of 10 students
per class. Classes last from 10:00AM - 1:00PM. After class students will go to their family homes to eat and relax.
After lunch there will be time for a siesta (a favorite Andalucían past time), time to relax at home, or time to enjoy the beautiful beaches of Cádiz. Students in Track Uno will then head back to the labs to work on their one of a kind documentary. Students in Track Dos will have free time in the afternoon to explore beautiful Cádiz.
Students will be appropriately placed in the proper Spanish class (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Fluent, etc.) as determined by the placement exam taken and submitted in your Camp Account. After each day, we re-assess the students to make sure they have been properly placed.
Classes of Spanish language and culture include:
- Spanish instruction
- All materials needed for Spanish class
- An accredited, native Spanish-speaking professor
- Spanish family home-stays, all meals included
- Entrance to all monuments to be visited, with guide and program coordinator
- Weekend excursions
- Round-trip transport from Jerez airport
- Group gatherings
- Cultural activities

Filmmaking Instruction
The filmmaking instruction applies only to students enrolled in Track Uno: Filmmaking, Spanish & Culture.
Kevin Painchaud – Spain Program Director: Kevin is a 10-year iD Tech Camps veteran. Kevin has been the National Digital Video Lead Instructor for iD Tech Camps each summer since 1999. When he's not teaching at iD Tech Camps, Kevin is busy as the owner of a Hollywood-based movie production and design company. Kevin is one of the country's leading Digital Video gurus. He can’t wait to get back to Cádiz where students more commonly know him as “El Guapo.” Read more about the iD Spain Staff.
The curriculum in this film course has been specially designed to take full advantage of the new environment to which the students are introduced. For instance, we’re going to get out and see the city, filming all over town -- beaches, cathedrals, cobblestone streets, ancient buildings, etc. We’ll take full advantage of filming locals from Cádiz, including the families of the students, and the international students at the language institute.
All students will progress at their own editing pace and will get a lot of one-on-one instruction. Students who
do not have previous experience using editing software will quickly be brought up to speed. Students who have advanced
editing skills will not be held back.
The program objective is to produce a documentary about your trip to Spain by capturing interesting footage of
Spanish sites and culture, while incorporating some of the newly acquired or improved Spanish language skills. This is an amazing way to get to know the people, the city, and the culture of Cádiz.
Of course filming is just one element of making a documentary movie. We will also be covering the following in
this course:
- Features of the Canon® digital camera
- Camera angles
- Cinematic framing
- Lighting
- Stages and roles of production
- Storyboarding
- Digital video editing with Apple® Final Cut Pro® (all students will have their own computer to edit their own project throughout the duration of the 2 ½ week program)
- Logging and capturing footage
- Editing to music
- Use of voice over
- Adobe® Photoshop® for credits, still photos, and graphics
- Special Effects with Adobe After Effects® (for advanced students)
- All students will go home with a copy of their very own documentary - MADE IN SPAIN!
Please note: there will be no more than 10 students per instructor in this course.
